Barnard is incorporating climate and sustainability into its decision-making, from strategic planning and capital improvements to our endowment and daily financial choices. 2017年3月, the 校董会 announced that the College would divest its endowment from fossil-fuel companies that dispute climate science or otherwise seek to thwart efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change. Corporate behaviors that question settled science, 在言语或行为上, conflict with Barnard's academic mission that supports evidence-based solutions to society's problems.

Barnard’s approach to divestment is unique and innovative. 可持续性 and climate action cannot be the responsibility of just one person or department at Barnard. We are committed to integrating sustainability as a priority at all levels of institutional leadership. 的 Sustainable Practices Committee (SPC) brings together 学生, 教师, 和工作人员 to define sustainability priorities and initiatives. 学生 primarily collaborate on sustainable initiatives on campus through the Student Government Association’s (SGA) 可持续发展委员会, formerly the Sustainable Initiatives Consulting Board (SIC-B), which works alongside the SPC to execute sustainable initiatives on campus.
